"To bring people to Jesus and membership in His family. Develop them into Christlike maturity and equip them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world; in order to magnify God's name." Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew 22:37-40, Acts 1:8

Fall Revival

Post Card

The Time is here. We are planning our first ever revival services this month. October 1st- 5th are the dates. Dr. Eddie Miller from the Sierra Baptist Association has agreed to come and preach for us. Saturday and Sunday nights we will be out in Jiggs. On Sunday Morning at 10:30 and Monday through Wednesday evenings at 6:00 we will be in South Fork.

The Ends of the Earth?

In Matthew 24:14 the Bible says that Jesus will return after the Gospel has been preached “in the whole world,” and “in every nation.” This is an important Theological statement Jesus has made here. The proper understanding of this verse may be in conflict with the contemporary view of missions in the American Church.

Cowboy Church

June 2011.jpg

The new Church Plant in Jiggs is under way. We had our first service in the Jiggs Community Hall on May 22. We had a wonderful time. There were several women and a child who came to the service. Most of the men were working on that day. As we waited for church to start we got to watch the cowboys move a herd of cattle from one field to another. This is the first time my family had ever seen a real cattle drive.

Thank You NEBA

South Fork Community Church wants to take this time to say thanks to the North East Baptist Association for all their support. The Director of Missions noticed that our service might be a little more appealing if we had a projector. However, due to the ceiling in our Sanctuary, we could not hang a projector and screen. The projector would hang so low that taller people could hit their heads on it. To solve this problem NEBA donated a 50 inch flat screen T.V. with all the hook-up’s we could ever need for Church.

Spiritual Barriers

As the Church sought God through prayer, He revealed to us two of the greatest spiritual barriers that are keeping people in our community from God. The first barrier is the attitude of independence and isolation. People move to South Fork to get away from town and enjoy the country life. People here have had to be very independent and take care of themselves. For many this means that they do not think that they need help from God or His people. This barrier manifests itself differently in men and women.

Easter Celebrations

As you know from last month’s newsletter we had two Easter Services this year. The early service in Jiggs went incredibly well. There were twenty five people in attendance, nineteen of which were from the Mound Valley/Jiggs area. They were all ranchers who live nearby. All who attended the Jiggs service expressed interest in starting regular worship services in their community. I am in the process of finding a suitable place to meet. Hopefully the Jiggs Community Hall will be an option for us.

Clean Up / Green Up

May 2011.jpg

For the second year in a row South Fork Community Church has hosted Elko County Clean Up/Green Up Day here in Lucky Nugget Subdivision. There were ten people from our church who attended this event. We filled a total of fourteen bags full of trash. We hope that events like this send a message to our neighbors that South Fork Community Church really cares about this neighborhood. All who participated received a free t-shirt and lunch at the park in Spring Creek or Elko. Lunch was provided by the County as well as a voucher for a free trip to the City Dump.

A Season of Change

March 20, marked the first day of spring on the calendar, but you would not know it by looking out the window here in North Eastern Nevada. It has been snowing like crazy since spring officially began.

The Tomb is Still Empty

As I write this article our nation is in the throws of one of the toughest economic downturns in our nation’s history. Home foreclosures are at an all time high. The state of Nevada leads the nation in this epidemic. The unemployment rate is nearly fifteen percent. And just when you think things couldn’t get much worse, gas prices began to soar.

More New Stuff

Chairs

Pictured within this text are several new items that South Fork Community Church Received last month. The first two items pictured are our new chairs and pulpit purchased from Hertz Furniture Systems with donations from Church members and readers like you. Thank you for your financial support. We were able to purchase 30 new red interlocking chairs for our chapel. The pulpit is small by most standards, but it fits the size of the room that we meet in.
